A fox on Fox News

One of today’s topics on Fox News was if Dora is becoming too hot. This refers to Dora the explorer, a Nickelodeon character created by Mattel that personifies an intelligent, friendly and outdoorsy Latina girl around the age of 6. Dora teaches kids how to follow maps and solve small mysteries and the kids learn a few Spanish words throughout the adventure.

Dora the Explorer has been around for 9 years so Mattel came up with an older version of Dora that resembles the character at age 10. Older Dora no longer has black hair but brown, uses makeup and has given up her signature backpack. The new Dora was compared to the Bratz dolls (their name says it all) and even though Dora definitely does not look like a Bratz, she was still considered a little bit too hot.

I was pleasantly surprised that Dora made it to Fox News instead of more talk about the economic crisis, but at the same time I question why she made it to the news. I guess that means that the Hispanic market is maturing right along with Dora.
